International Mission Trip to Haiti
Trip Overview
· “Transformational Travel” to Haiti with Beyond Borders, custom designed for UCC
· Trip focus would be on experiential education, learning about Haiti with particular attention to children's rights/protection, women's/girl's violence prevention, rural education
· Cost: $2,000 plus items of a personal nature and voluntary contribution to Beyond Borders
Itinerary
· Flexible but will generally will entail flying to Port-au-Price, drive to Jacmel area, time in Jacmel and surrounding rural areas, with guest house and home stays
· Will be under wing of Beyond Borders 100% of time once into Port-au-Prince airport and until departure
· Can tailor trip to focus on one or more of their areas of work...children's rights/protection, women's/girl's violence protection, rural education
Group Size/Composition
· Trip led by Kelly Jo Clark
· 5-10 people
· Appriate for High-School aged children and older
Safety/Health
· No extant issues, no significant problems w/ 2011 trips
· Normal lesser-developed-country travel hazards that are generally addressable
· Biggest traveler issue historically has been heat/dehydration complications
· Beyond Borders will provide filtered water, careful food prep, etc..., reponsibility for good health will lie equally with participants
· Requires prophylactic malaria prevention (chloroquinine)
Next Steps for UCC/Participants
· Initial deposit of $200 due by November 15…first-come first-serve…note that those signing up early will ensure their participation, help define itinerary, etc.
· Commitment to Beyond Borders by December 1
